Originally this track was written more than 20 years ago, when I was playing around with a delay pedal one day. It gradually evolved over time, then when it was first recorded in 2001, added a bridge section and some piano in the choruses.
Recorded it a second time in 2007 for a side project (Van Hog Trio), slowing it down a bit and incorporating a sprawling intro. You can check out that version here:
This version was recorded in 2009 and this time added a whole new main guitar track, plus some acoustic & electric guitars for the choruses, as well as sped the whole thing back up to around 110bpm.
It took its inspiration from the Greek story of Narcissus and Echo about a hunter who falls in love with his own reflection and was originally going to appear on the Carnivore album.
The surprisingly comical new video from roaring metal group Red Fang is a tip of the hat to the original “Predator.” Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 12, 2016
